Fola keeps pushing his sound deeper into contemporary Afrobeats with a new record called “How Many?” The Lagos-born singer and songwriter, real name Folarin Odunlami, has spent his run building music that sits between R&B feeling and Afrobeats rhythm.
“How Many?” is a slower, reflective kind of record. The mood leans on his melodic approach and expressive vocal style, the same qualities that have shaped his output so far. It is the sort of track that fits a quiet evening or a long drive.
The production here matters more than the tempo suggests. Space is left around the vocal, so the melody carries the weight instead of a busy drum pattern. That choice is deliberate, because Fola has never needed a loud beat to hold attention.
He broke through in 2022 with “alone” and is signed to Bella Shmurda’s Dangbana Republik, with EMPIRE handling distribution. His debut album, Catharsis, features Young Jonn, and OkayAfrica once named him Artist of the Month.
Not every release needs a club moment, and this one clearly does not chase one. Does “How Many?” land for you? Drop your thoughts in the comment section below.
