Fanzy Papaya keeps his catalogue moving with “Erenpe,” a new record that pairs him with fellow music act Ejima042.
The song is a straight collaboration, built around the back-and-forth between both performers. Fanzy Papaya leads the record, while Ejima042 comes in to answer him. Both artists trade the song between them instead of handing one a quick verse.
There is no word yet on a project behind it, so “Erenpe” stands on its own for now as a single entry in Fanzy Papaya’s growing body of work. The pair lean on delivery to carry the weight of the song.
What makes the release worth a listen is the pairing itself. Two voices on one record only works when each one gives the other room. That is the test here, and fans who follow contemporary Nigerian music will want to hear how the two settle into the same pocket.
