Umu Obiligbo continue their run through Igbo Highlife with a new record called “Ebube Agu” from Legendary. The brothers have built years of work around this sound, and the song arrives as the latest entry in that catalogue.

“Ebube Agu” sits first on the Legendary tracklist, so it carries the job of setting the tone for everything after it. The project leans on the same blend of traditional Highlife influences and contemporary touches that has become their trademark. Indigenous expressions and instrumental arrangements do plenty of the work here.

For anyone new to the duo, Umu Obiligbo are known for close harmonies and storytelling. Their music often carries messages tied to Igbo culture and the preservation of the Highlife sound. That identity runs through “Ebube Agu” as well.

Given how much of their audience comes for exactly that sound, this feels like a sensible way to open an album. Familiar ground, no unnecessary detours, and a clear signal of where Legendary is headed. The writing does not chase trends, and it does not need to.
