Chelsea Football Club goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga denies, Chelsea their opportunity to secure the Carabao Cup trophy

Chelsea brought on goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in the final minute of extra-time, but the Spaniard was decisive for all the wrong reasons.

However, at Wembley Stadium on Sunday evening both teams were unfortunate as there were unable to secure a goal before the final whistle so they had to go for the penalty shot

All the players from each team delivered their penalties and it was left for the two goalkeepers to shoot their shot but kepa was unfortunate to miss his opportunity.

This became Klopp’s fifth trophy at Liverpool, and his first Carabao Cup, as the Merseyside club won the title for the first time since 2012.

Chelsea, meanwhile, finished as runners-up for a fourth time, just as they did in 2019

Chelsea started the better side, with Mason Mount hitting the post and having another glorious chance go wide.

It was Jurgen Klopp’s side who appeared to break the deadlock first when Joel Matip headed in, but the goal was ruled out for offside from Virgil van Dijk in the build-up.

Shortly after, Kai Havertz headed in but was offside, though the closest call would come early in extra time.

If the Van Dijk offside decision was close, then Romelu Lukaku went even tighter as he scored early on in the additional 30 minutes only to be ruled off for a minimal margin.

Havertz then had another goal ruled out, again for offside, as both teams upped the ante in search of a goal with Mohamed Salah among those to produce a fine stop from Edouard Mendy.

Having seen every chance go begging through 120 minutes, it was almost to be expected that both teams would be impeccable from 12 yards in the shoot-out.

Chelsea brought on goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in the final minute of extra-time, but the Spaniard was decisive for all the wrong reasons.

Every outfield player scored from the spot, with 23-year-old Caoimhin Kelleher stepping up to score for Liverpool before Kepa fired over the bar.
