Seyi Vibez trades the usual hustle talk for romance on “MELANIN,” a softer cut inside his newly released album SWAGUU. The Lagos street-pop act keeps the backbone intact, yet the mood shifts toward beauty, attraction and admiration.
Melodies carry the record, and his vocal delivery does the rest. Because the subject matter leans romantic, the energy stays relaxed instead of loud. The song appears on SWAGUU, a 14-track project that also holds “MELANIN GOD PANSA,” “ILOME,” “BACK 2 U,” “ALAGIA” and “EL JAJA.”
The album follows FUJI MOTO, which has pulled over 267 million Spotify streams to date. Before that came Children Of Africa and Loseyi Professor, so the run has been steady. He has also linked with DJ Tunez, Wizkid and Terry Apala on the APALA DISCO remix. Clearly, demand around him has not cooled.
What makes this one interesting is the restraint. He could have attacked the theme loudly, but instead he lets the melody do the talking, and that choice says something about how far his songwriting has travelled.
