Clean Bandit, Omah Lay and Chlöe Bailey link up on a new single called “Company.” That distance between them is exactly what makes the record worth a listen.
The British electronic group built the track around its usual electronic backbone. However, the production folds in R&B and Afrobeats instead of staying in pop’s lane. It also offers a first taste of a studio album Clean Bandit has on the way.
Clean Bandit formed in Cambridge back in 2008. Since then, the group has collected four number-one singles and six more top-ten hits. They have also worked with a long list of vocalists from different worlds, so this kind of pairing fits their history.
Chlöe comes through with a full, rich vocal. Omah Lay keeps things easy and unhurried, and that laid-back delivery gives the song its Afrofusion feel. Three voices, three markets, one track. It only works because nobody tries to outshine anybody else.
