Cross-continental Afrobeats records are still rare enough to raise eyebrows, and “Voodoo” throws three voices onto one beat. Chinese-based Afro-fusion artist Chisway leads the charge here.
The record pairs him with Liberian hitmaker JZyNo and Chinese vocalist 斯丹曼簇. It also serves as the lead release from Chisway’s forthcoming 12-track album. The source material doesn’t detail who handled production, so the arrangement credit stays open for now.
What makes this one interesting is the gap it fills. Afrobeats has been moving outward for a while, yet records pairing African contemporary sounds with East Asian voices remain uncommon. “Voodoo” leans into that gap instead of playing it safe. Contemporary Afrobeats sits next to Chinese musical influences, and each side gets room to breathe.
That split can go either way in the studio. Here, the intent is clearly to let all three performers share the record rather than bury one sound under another. Chisway carries the Afro-fusion side, JZyNo brings the Liberian hitmaking pedigree, and 斯丹曼簇 adds a Chinese vocal presence that most Afrobeats crossovers simply don’t have.
Give Chisway – Voodoo a spin and tell us how the three of them sit together on the beat in the comments.
