Masterkraft, one of Nigeria’s most respected beatmakers, returns with a new solo record titled “Yoh!!!” for his growing catalogue.
The track is built around lively rhythms and contemporary African sounds. There is no featured artist here, so the production carries the weight alone. It belongs to his Party Starter (PS2) project, where it sits alongside Hi-Life and Bounce (Dada).
For anyone new to him, Masterkraft is a record producer, DJ, band director, pianist and songwriter. He was born Sunday Ginikachukwu Nweke in Ajegunle, Lagos, and he originates from the Igbo tribe. He has spent years shaping the sound of modern Afrobeats as a leading producer in the genre. His catalogue also includes collaborations with Joeboy, Majeed, Chiké and Ugoccie.
What makes “Yoh!!!” interesting is how little it needs beyond the arrangement itself. The rhythm does the talking, and that says plenty about his range.
