Phyno slides back into that space between rapping and singing on “Beautiful.”

The song carries no album title, no producer credit and no guest feature. So there is little to unpack beyond the music itself. His rap style drives the record, yet melodic elements run underneath it.

That blend is not new territory for him. The Enugu-raised artist, a native of Anambra State, has worked as a rapper, singer, songwriter and producer at once. He also runs Penthauze Music, the imprint he founded. Before all that, he started out producing in 2003 and later moved to Lagos to push music full time. Igbo remains his main language on the mic.

His debut album No Guts No Glory arrived in 2014 and gave us “Ghost Mode” with Olamide and “Man of the Year (Obago).” Both picked up major wins at The Headies. So a softer, more melodic outing should not shock anyone following his run.

What does “Beautiful” actually do? It leans on groove more than punchlines. The rapping still anchors things, but there is air around the delivery. It plays like a record made for easy listening rather than a barfest.

If that fusion sounds like your kind of thing, the song is out now. Give “Beautiful” a spin and tell us your honest verdict in the comment section below.
