Portable has released a new single called “Opapaparada,” a record built around a catchy phrase with a life of its own.
The song reportedly grew out of that trending expression before Portable turned it into a full release. That origin tells you plenty about how the record is put together. The arrangement leans on a repetitive hook and a lively beat, the kind of structure that sticks quickly.
Portable, real name Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, is also known as Zazu Zeh and the CEO of Zeh Nation. He broke into the mainstream with “ZaZoo Zehh,” which featured Olamide and Poco Lee. Since then, he has kept up a steady stream of releases.
On “Opapaparada,” his energetic delivery and street expressions carry the track, with the beat doing much of the work behind him. It is a record that trusts its hook more than its verses.
